FAQ

Who is CR for?

EVERYONE!!!

CR is for anyone who is or has been struggling with LIFE.  If you have ever had a hurt, if you have ever had a struggle, or perhaps an addiction, then this ministry is for you.  We all share one thing in common: WE ALL NEED RECOVERY

 What is CR?

"CR" is short for COMMUNITY RECOVERY

Community Recovery is a safe place, a refuge, a place of belonging, a place to care for others and be cared for. Where respect is given to each member. Where confidentiality is HIGHLY regarded. A place to learn, to grow and become strong again. Where you can take off your mask. A place for healthy challenges and healthy risks. A possible turning point in your life.

What makes us different?

So how is Community Recovery different from AA, NA (and other 12 step programs)?  CR on the HILL focuses on Jesus Christ as our true Higher Power. WE use GOD'S WORD as our guide. There is a large group worship time to help connect with God and prepare for the message of Christ-Centered recovery. The 8 Principles intersect perfectly with the 12 Steps by connecting the core principals of recovery to Jesus’  teachings from The Sermon on the Mount, found in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, Chapters 5-7

Who leads CR?

CR is led by Christians in recovery who have worked through the 12 Steps themselves. We serve alongside many others on the road to recovery who volunteer in the ministry as part of their long term recovery. We understand. We come from a wide variety of recovery issues and backgrounds. We all have a heart for CR and for helping others on their journey.

What can I expect?

We like to think that CR is a place where we can feel safe, comfortable and loved by new friends and family.  A place where we can relax and know that great things are about to happen.  CR is one of the most loving and accepting environments you will ever be a part of. This is a safe environment where we can take our masks off and be who we TRULY are.

This is the true JUDGEMENT-FREE ZONE !

What does a typical night for CR look like?

We all come together under one roof to cheer each other on in a new life of recovery! Our Leadership Team is made up of all volunteers that can't wait to meet you. Can't wait to help guide you into a new beginning.

We are here for you because we WANT TO BE !!!

6:15 - Doors open. Greeting with light snacks and drinks

6:30-7:20 pm - Open meeting with Step reading and Celebration Recovery Chip Ceremony, followed by Large Group Meeting. Our large group meeting is a time of teaching on a specific recovery topic, the 8 Principals, 12 Steps, or a testimony. The purpose of this time is to set aside the worries and stress of the day and allow the process to help us connect with God. The lessons are either from the CR Participants guides or from our own Vision Lessons and will help you understand what the program is and how to work it into your life. We have lessons each week for three consecutive weeks, followed up with a live testimony on the 4th week, showing how the program has worked in the lives of others and how they experienced Gods grace and healing in their own lives.

7:20 - 7:30 pm -- BREAK TIME. We usually take a 5-10 minute bathroom and refreshment break.

7:30-8:00 pm  - Separate Men and Women's Open Share Groups are offered each week following the large group meeting. These groups are designed to allow you an opportunity to share about your struggles and victories in a PRIVATE setting. What is shared in the group - STAYS in the group.

What are the chips, and why are they important?

CR Recovery Chips are designed to give each person an opportunity to mark their individual recovery.  If you don’t have a hurt, addiction or struggle that can be marked by a specific "new beginning" date easily, then we suggest you mark your journey from the day you pick up your FIRST-TIME chip, which is the first chip marking surrender in your life, and the start of New Beginnings!

Is Community Recovery confidential?

YES. CR strives to maintain strict confidentiality. This promotes an atmosphere of trust and enables recovery.

WHO you see here and WHAT you hear here... MUST STAY HERE.

Do I have to be a member of Shelby Christian Church?

NO!  Community Recovery is a ministry for anyone who is interested in a Christ-Centered recovery program that will enable them to recover from life’s struggles. There are attendees who are not members and/or do not attend Shelby Christian Church.

If you do not currently have a church home you are very much welcome to attend any of our additional weekly services - Thursday evening service at 7:00pm, and  Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 11:00am. Please visit shelbychristian.org for more information.

What is a Step Study Group?

A Step Study Group is a separate small group that will meet on another night. CR on the HILL uses the 4 Participant Guides as the curriculum for working through the 12 Steps and 8 Recovery Principals. The CR Step Study is a personal journey through each of these steps in a confidential group. It is a long-term commitment to the members of this group. It will typically take 8 to 12 months to complete the study. After completing the Step Study, we hope you will join with us as we minister to others dealing with their hurts, pain and addictions.

What if I can't make it every week?

You are welcome to come to Wednesday Large Group meetings whenever you can. However, if you join a Step Study, you are expected to come each week until you complete it. As with any endeavor, the more effort you put into CR the more benefit you will gain.

What if I have children?

Shelby Christian Church provides a safe, loving environment for children. They will be well taken care of. Please arrive a few minutes earlier to allow time for check-in at the Children's area.
